Danish Gambling Market Shows Strong Growth — Slots Lead the Way

Denmark’s iGaming sector continues to recover, with online slots driving the bulk of growth. New data from regulator Spillemyndigheden shows that online casinos saw over 20% YoY growth, with slots accounting for roughly DKK 292m — around 80% of all online gaming revenue.

Traditional games like blackjack and roulette made up smaller shares (DKK 22m and DKK 17m respectively), while poker and bingo remained around DKK 7.5m each. This clearly highlights that player interest is heavily concentrated on slots.

Mobile continues to dominate the market: 71% of deposits are now made via smartphones, emphasizing the growing demand for “on-the-go” gaming.

Physical casinos and gaming halls are also showing signs of recovery, earning DKK 33m, up ~14% YoY. However, stationary slot machines in halls slightly declined by ~2%.

Responsible gaming remains a priority: over 62,500 users have self-excluded through ROFUS, with more than 40,000 opting for permanent blocks — a reminder that player protection remains essential even as the market grows.

Key Takeaways for Affiliates and Operators

  • Slots are king. Promoting slot offers remains the most effective vertical in Denmark.
  • Mobile-first is a must. Any offer or landing page that doesn’t perform on smartphones is already at a disadvantage.
  • Responsible gaming matters. ROFUS registrations and other player protection tools directly affect which offers are sustainable.
  • Don’t ignore offline. Physical casinos can still provide valuable traffic in hybrid campaigns.
